A World of my Creation

My newest digital art series, printed to canvas. The collection is called “Cover Story” and each piece is printed on 8” x 8” wrapped canvas. The images were created as mock-up album covers for 5 of the 7 singles from the New York based band, TalkFine’s “Lesser Known Hits” album: She Never, She Didn’t Have A Name, It’s About The Bike, Anonymous Lover, and Sugar Daddy. Both She Never covers and the Sugar Daddy cover were created in Illustrator CS5. It’s About the Bike, She Didn’t Have A Name, and Anonymous Lover were all created in Photoshop CS5. If you are interested in any of the pieces, they are $30 each or $150 for the set. They come with d-hooks for hanging unless otherwise requested. I cried myself to sleep
last night.
did you know?
probably not.
you wouldn’t know
about how I just cried
in the shower
either.
where the tears
get mixed
with the water drops.
but I can always tell the difference
because somehow
the tears always feel warmer
as they slide down your cheeks
no matter how hot
the water is,
beating down your back.
did you know that?
probably not.
but then again,
why would you care?
this relationship
has become a bargain,
a tool
to use and abuse.
or is this even
a relationship
anymore?
have you ever even loved me?
or have you been too
hung up
on the ex
you always have to
hang out with,
and call
and text
when I’m not around?
maybe
I’ve been cheated on
this whole time
because you were never really
in this,
refusing to
test yourself
when it was my only
simple
request.
maybe you never
really
wanted me,
but I was
convenient
and there
and willing
because I was
lost.
and you knew that.
knew that you
could just
step in
and fill the hole
left in my heart,
with more bulls***,
because
at least then
I wouldn’t feel
so empty.
but is that really
any better?
it makes me feel stupid
for believing in love
when it isn’t real.
maybe my ex was right
and I just can’t be loved
because I’m too difficult.
maybe asking to be held
and caressed
in a non sexual way
is still too much to ask.
because who would want
to have to hold me
unless I did
something in return—
for your benefit.
why would I be worth
just being loved
on my own
and not because
of any outside promises,
or factors,
or bribes?
if I wanted a roommate,
I would have stayed single
and let my best friend
move in.
if I wanted to
be ignored
without physical connection
and to feel
like my presence
is actually
taking a toll
on you,
I would have kept trying
to get my ex
to take me back.
if I wanted
a relationship
where I felt that I wasn’t
worth the fight,
I wouldn’t have
given up
on my ex.
you pretend
like it’s all fine
and that
I’m just being silly
and overreactive
but I’m not okay,
as I feel like I’m
reliving the past
I’ve tried to step away from
and forget
and move on from.
I was hoping that you’d
be different
and prove that love
is real.
but I guess I’ve always
lived in the clouds,
in a world
that doesn’t exist,
so I don’t deserve
the happiness
I long for.
at least he had the guts
to stop saying
he loved me
when he no longer
meant it.
I wish you would too.

are you writing poems
for another girl
which keeps you
from letting me see?
the thoughtless “nothing”s
you throw my way
make me wonder
what it could be.
should I be worried
about what you hold back?
is there something
you need to hide?
or is this a part
of the auto response
you’ve created
and just let it slide?
sometimes I wonder
if you’re getting sick
of me not giving you
what you want
and I hope to God
that we’ll tough it out
instead of giving up
and getting out.

I never thought
it’d be this hard
to walk away
from you.
but the tallies
keep stacking
of the things
I can’t give in on.
I just don’t feel
that we’re doing
each other any good.
you’re not changing
for the better
and you don’t
like my stance
on all
your favorite things.
I just can’t keep
compromising
in ways that bring me
no benefit.
it doesn’t work
when you’re the only one

unscathed.
so I’ve made my decision
and I think
that it’s best

I just want to
escape,

escape.
step out
of this world
for just
a moment.
breathe.
break free.
solitude
and sanity.
these are
fleeting
feelings
but
I feel them
nonetheless.

I want
to just be

hour.
peace.
alone
but not

a time for

It doesn’t make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don’t really see ourselves. We don’t watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up and silent with chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don’t see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don’t see yourself looking at someone with love and care inside your heart. There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly yourself.

it’s funny
how the mind responds
to anger
and being upset.
it seems
every drought
of words
rushes back to life,
ready to carry
your emotions
to the page.
I’d love to be
the kind of girl
who doesn’t care
what you do,
but I do
and the things
you choose to do,
or want to do,
bother me
to no end.
and I don’t quite know
how to
make that clear
without
driving you away.
thus, I’m left
with feeling upset
and hiding it,
horribly so.
I’d apologize
but you won’t either
because we can’t help
but disagree.
there’s reasons
I never
did those things
and I wish
you hadn’t either.
but we
can’t change the past
and we must deal
with things
as they come,
so I say drop it
to find
false peace
between us.

I had hoped my poetry
would loosen the noose
hung around my throat
that keeps the words
from coming out,
not a single note.

It seems as though
I’m still terrified
of saying “I love you” aloud,
but I may be putting
too much stock
in what times they are allowed.

As a friend has told me
“It’s not the timing,
it’s all about the meaning,”
but I still can’t seem
to let the first time happen
without my own intervening.

I hold it back
until the moment is right,
but then rationalize it away,
until it seems
that every moment
doesn’t give me a chance to say:

That I love you,
and I love you, oh so much,
that it aches to hold it back,
so I’ll try to find
the courage to say
the words my mouth does lack.

Note: To clarify, I did finally say “I love you” aloud, but it did take sending my boyfriend this poem to give me the courage. I had written two previous poems that told him I loved him as Valentine’s gifts (which will not be posted - and are the reason for the first verse in this poem), but I still hadn’t been able to say the words to him. Also, I know the flow on this is a little weird, but I feel that it’s better spoken than read, funnily enough, linking back to the meaning of this poem: saying I love you rather than just writing it.

breathing in.
breathing out.
bind my fingers.

to sleep.
stop the thoughts
that make me weak.
test out a smile.
sigh of relief.
cast out the bad.
